SCENARIO #1

In the aftermath of Saddam Hussein and his army, 732 wells wer critically damaged and set on fire. Many other wells which were not burning were flowing into the atmosphere polluting our earth along with the smoke from the burning wells.

The majority of damage to the wells were sustained at the tubing hanger either directly below the hanger flange or at the bonnet where the xmas tree N/U. Large build-ups of coke formed around the wellheads that were blown below the hanger flange. This posed a problem in accessing the well for capping. Due to the intense heat for a long period of time there was not much left to cap, and the outer casing strings had to be stipped away. A variety of solutions were utilized in controlling the blowouts after the fire was extinguished.

SOLUTION

  • Sting into the well with a tapered stinger and pump kill fluids.

  • Set an inflatable packer and pump kill fluids

  • Cap well on existing flange with B.O.P. stack or ball valve and pump kill fluids.

  • Remove damaged wellhead, strip away outer casing strings and cap well with B.O.P. on the production casing.
